The suspect has since been identified as 57-year-old Rebecca Grossman, who is the co-founder of the non-profit Grossman Burn Center. Following the incident, Grossman was arrested on two counts of vehicular manslaughter and has since been release from jail on a $2 million bond. Authorities believe alcohol and street racing may have played a part in the collision.
Capt. Salvador Becerra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated, “The children were walking with their family. It is a very tragic situation. The mother and father were able to pull the other two children back in time, and the vehicle struck the two other children.”
In a statement from the Grossman Burn Center, it reads, “Like our entire community, the Grossman Burn Center family at West Hills Hospital is terribly saddened by this tragedy. Our sympathies are with all who have been affected.”
