While former OVO artist ILoveMakonnen silences all of the criticism after revealing he’s been working in a restaurant kitchen, he’s also dragging “obsessed and bitter sister girl” Joe Budden for dissing him again.

On August 16, ILoveMakonnen posted on his Instagram about his recording studio burning down. He shared a screenshot of his GoFundMe page and captioned the post, “On Aug 13 a fire destroyed Burn Money Studios. This place has supported me and countless others, now they need support to rebuild. Link in bio.” In a second post, he shared more images of the aftermath and news reporting. He captioned the post:
“Can’t believe I’m even typing this. Burn Money studios, where the whole crew makes music, has burned down. They lost almost everything. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the pain is still real. Myself and so many friends have spent countless hours here making songs and memories. There’s a fundraiser in my bio to help get them back on their feet. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this.”

A week later, ILoveMakonnen started making headlines after he shared a video of him working inside of a kitchen at a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. He’s been living in the area after relocating in 2016. Since stepping away from the mainstream spotlight, he’s become an active part of the city’s local music and culture scene, like becoming a Guest Chef.
After sharing his latest venture, many social media users quickly claimed he “fell off” and starting looking at his video as something negative. They questioned what happened to the rapper whose 2014 hit “Tuesday,” featuring his OVO boss Drake, went viral and earned him a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” at the 57th ceremony.

However, in a new interview with Brian Zisook — aka Z, the co-founder of streaming platform Audiomack — ILoveMakonnen, 36, silenced all of the criticism over his new gig. The singer/rapper said, “I’m not embarrassed. I’m just surviving like every human has to.” He told Zisook that his kitchen shift is part of his fundraising efforts to rebuild the recording studio. He also performs other hustles in cannabis sales, middleman deals for local businesses, moving jobs, and more.
Reacting to his video going viral and the internet rushing to judgment and calling him a “fallen rapper,” ILoveMakonnen said, “Why are you shaming me for helping myself? People always tie my story back to Drake. But I haven’t had a relationship with him since 2015.”
Makonnen also said that he’s been quietly releasing new music for the past few years. He noted that he’s been fulfilling his contractual obligations tied to a decade-old co-publishing deal. He continued:
“I’d love to keep making art, but the business side? I want out. I never chased a recording career. Music was a way out. But once I saw the politics, the egos, and the fake sh*t, I knew this wasn’t for me. Respectfully, I want to remove myself. There’s no big bros or big sisters checking in. No management, no booking agent. Everyone turned their back. The whole of everybody I’ve known turned their back on me and pretty much said, ‘F**ck you, we’ll come around when you’re dead and tell everybody you were a legend.
The only thing that really makes me happy is when I can help somebody else. I’m not embarrassed by any of it. This is survival. That’s real life. I don’t want the next group to give up. Or feel scared to be themselves. I want to show there’s another way. I’m not the most talented. I’m not the most anything. I just do me. If more people did that, they’d see it’s not too hard to be whatever it is they want to be.”
ILoveMakonnen Drags ‘Obsessed And Bitter Sister Girl’ Joe Budden For Dissing Him ‘For Years’
Elsewhere, ILoveMakonnen also dragged rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden for again dissing him. On a recent episode of his self-titled podcast, Budden had rapper J.I.D on who briefly name-dropped ILoveMakonnen while listing off rappers who were lit o”n the Atlanta scene at one point. Budden replied, “Makonnen. F**k out of here. F***king Makonnen.” Makonnen replied in several videos on his Instagram. He said:
“I really be minding my business and then people be trying to come for me and shade me and it’s so disrespectful, right? And then, when I defend myself because it is sassy with the spice, you know people go like, ‘Oh, that’s not nice.’
It’s like, no, it’s not nice for these people to be on these platforms spreading these lies about me, dogging me out, saying ‘f me,’ and all that, and ain’t got no real reason to sit up here and be going that hard about me on their mind when I have never met them never in person. They won’t invite me to their little platform they got. They supposedly acting real secure with they $20-40 million a year and all that, but it’s like my name stays on your mouth, okay, forever.
Some other artists mention me at the Joe Budden Podcast, J.I.D., and Joe Budden goes and has damn-near a stroke up there mentioning me. It’s like, oh, baby girl. You’re so old in that closet that you is balding sister. If you don’t make me girl—don’t make me drag you the f**k up out that motherf***ker in 2025.”
In a a couple more videos, ILoveMakonnen continued to drag Joe Budden and said:
“I don’t know why I be having these motherf**kers so pressed. It’s like I don’t even know y’all. I never met y’all. Je Budden, for years has been on my d**k, for years. It’s like, bro, I don’t know you. What the f**ck is this? You is obsessed. You is obsessed with me, fam. I don’t know if it’s the curls. I don’t know if your girl like me, or what assumption, but you just been obsessed for years. You’ve been on your podcast for years trashing the f**k out of me. It’s like girl you the most famous hater I got. That’s crazy.
It’s like what is up with you? I be really trying figure it out. Like what the f**k? You grown dog. You got gray hair. We remember ‘Pump It Up,’ n***a. We listened to your f***ing album. They used to call you ‘mouse’ and sh*t. You were struggling with addiction. You used to beat on your girlfriend Angie and all that sh*t. We f**king heard your lame a** sh*t back in the day, n***a. And now it’s like you’ve been on podcast just chatting like a f**ing gay man. Girl, don’t.
We not done with you bitter, old, little B.I.T.C.—you know the rest. You are the saddest, most bitter B.I.T. in the kennel, honey. And because I have such a warming heart for the stray animals that ain’t never been loved, I am going to do the work, that your family, whoever, did not put in, to let you know, sister girl. you need to look in the mirror and start loving yourself.
Stop spreading that hate that you have towards others. Because when you see them you feel inferior, you feel jealous, you feel hate, you feel all the insecurities that you’ve been dealing with your whole life. Sister girl, I don’t care how much money you have, sister. You need to go ahead and spend it on that therapy, girl. Come on out of that shell of darkness that you are in because, girl, God can deliver you. God can deliver you, Joe Budden, for real.
