Former Flight Attendant Serves A Week In Jail For Sex With 15-Year-Old
Melissa Nosti, a former flight attendant for Australia’s Tiger Air, is now a bit of a free woman after serving just a week in jail for having sex with a 15-year-old in school. In 2010, the now-33-year-old woman worked as an attendance officer at the child’s school, and proceeded to start nonconsensual relationship with him.
It’s noted that the legal age of consent in most of Australia is 16; further meaning that “all sexual interactions between an adult and person under the age of consent are considered abusive.” Last week, after pleading guilty, Nosti was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a 6-month non-parole period. However, she’s since been released on bail after appearing in a courtroom on Wednesday (Oct. 21).

During the hearing, her lawyer claimed she was a “low risk” reoffender and “had employment history after [the incident];” that being her career at the airline. While Magistrate Susan Horan claimed the victim’s impact statement was “compelling,” she granted the former stewardess bail; whose conditions include her having only one cell phone and giving police the password when asked. Additionally, she must live at her address in North Ryde in Northern Sydney, and is now allowed to contact the victim or be in the company of anyone under the age 16.
