A food influencer in the Philippines reportedly died days after consuming a toxic crab, commonly referred to as a “devil crab.”
According to Dexerto, 51-year-old Emma Amit collapsed inside her home in Palawan province after filming herself eating the shellfish she had collected in a mangrove forest. The incident occurred on February 4 near Puerto Princesa, where Amit gathered the crab with friends before cooking it in coconut milk on camera.
Local reports state that she began feeling ill the following day. Witnesses claimed her lips turned blue before she was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Death Confirmed Two Days Later
Amit passed away on February 6 despite receiving medical care.
Investigators believe she consumed a poisonous crab known locally as a “devil crab,” which is reported to contain dangerous neurotoxins. Authorities have not released additional medical findings but indicated the type of crab is known to be highly toxic.
Following her death, Official Laddy Gemang, chief of Luzviminda village, warned residents about the dangers of consuming poisonous crustaceans. Officials said similar incidents have already claimed two lives in the area.
The situation has prompted renewed warnings to the public about properly identifying seafood before consumption, especially when foraging in coastal and mangrove regions.
