As Austin Metcalf’s father Jeff Metcalf breaks his silence following Karmelo Anthony’s appeal denial, he insists he’s not a racist and says justice was not served in the fatal stabbing of his son during an April 2025 school track meet in Frisco, Texas.
Karmelo Anthony Request To Appeal Conviction And 35-Year Sentence Denied In Fatal Austin Metcalf Stabbing
On Saturday (August 22), retired Kaufman County District Judge Michael Chitty denied 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony’s motion for a new trial. In their request, Anthony’s new legal team alleged he and his family entered into a “gentleman’s agreement” with his trial attorneys. They argued this impacted his ability to testify in his own defense.
The new attorneys claimed Anthony was “coerced” into waiving his right to testify. This due to a dispute between his defense attorneys and prosecutors. Both sides argued whether his testimony would be covered by the agreement limiting certain character evidence in his trial. Anthony’s new defense attorneys allege this denied him a “complete defense.”
Austin Metcalf’s Father Doesn’t Believe Justice Was Served After Karmelo Anthony’s Conviction And 35-Year Sentence
As Anthony’s new team appeals the decision, the father of the 17-year-old boy fatally stabbed is reacting. In a new interview with ABC News’ Good Morning America, Jeff Metcalf said justice has not been served.
Additionally, he claims that if Anthony’s past was shared during trial, he would have received more time. In June 2026, a non-Black jury convicted Anthony of first-degree murder. Shortly after, they agreed to sentence him to 35 years in prison, and a White judge made the ruling official. In the past few days, new documents revealed Austin’s troubling past.
Jeff also insisted that he is not racist despite his previous controversial comments about Anthony, his parents, and legal team. Notably, after Anthony’s conviction and sentencing, Jeff went nuclear on his parents. He called his father, Andrew Anthony, a “p***y coward.” He also called his mother a “drunk b*tch” who should have CPS called on them.
