Remember the shocking incident last month in Vegas where a man leaped over a judicial bench and attacked a Nevada judge ? Well, that wild moment which was captured on a courtroom video that quickly went viral, has now led to the indictment of Deobra Redden for attempted murder.
According to the New York Post, a grand jury in Las Vegas returned a nine-count indictment against Redden, and his arraignment is scheduled for February 29th.
As we previously reported, during the sentencing hearing on January 3rd, Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus was about to deliver Redden’s sentence in an attempted battery case when he suddenly lunged over the bench at her. The courtroom cameras recorded the dramatic scene as Holthus’ clerk and a court marshal fought to restrain Redden. The video quickly spread across the internet and social media platforms, garnering widespread attention.

After refusing to appear back in court for his scheduled hearing, Redden was issued a court order instructing him to appear. For that appearance, he was brought into the courtroom shackled and masked.
“I want to make it clear that I am not changing or modifying the sentence I was in the process of imposing last week before I was interrupted by the defendant’s actions,” Judge Holthus said.
Judge Holthus ultimately sentenced Redden to up to four years in prison for the previous battery charge he had pleaded guilty to in November. However, the incident did not end there. Redden has now been indicted for attempted murder. The new indictment alleges that he attacked Holthus by grabbing her, pulling her hair, placing his hands around her throat, and hitting her on the head by unknown means. Additionally, Redden is accused of assaulting a Las Vegas police officer by punching, kicking, and pushing him.
Redden’s foster mother, Karen Springer, and his older sister, LaDonna Daniels, revealed that he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. However, court records indicate that he was found competent to stand trial. Redden’s adult criminal history also reveals a troubling pattern, with convictions for three felonies and nine misdemeanors, many of which involve violent acts.
The attack on Judge Mary Kay Holthus during a sentencing hearing in Las Vegas has shocked the public and raised concerns about courtroom safety. The indictment of Deobra Redden for attempted murder highlights the severity of the incident and the potential consequences he may face. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains crucial to address the mental health issues that Redden reportedly suffers from, while ensuring the safety and well-being of judges and court personnel.
