The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that 58-year-old Clifford Anthony Bliss Jr. reportedly became upset after a cat wandered into his property on Wednesday. He went to visit his neighbor, James Arland Taylor,41, and threatened to shoot the cat for trespassing. Taylor asked Bliss not to shoot the cat but moments later, he was shot in the chest.

“Mr. Bliss was so upset that his neighbor’s cat had wandered over into his yard that he went, retrieved a rifle, leaves his home, goes across the street to the victim’s home, tells them that he was upset that their cat came into his yard. The victim, Mr. Taylor, tells him, ‘Please don’t shoot my cat,'” Bloom said, according to the outlet. “Mr. Bliss decides, ‘You know what, I’m just going to shoot him.’ So he shot Mr. Taylor and killed him there,” said Marion County Sgt. Paul Bloom

Neighbors also said Bliss was known to have anger issues and added that he would often argue with them about their pets.
