A 3-year-old girl in Miami-Dade, Florida, accidentally shot herself with an unattended gun, with video footage of the incident having since gone viral. Thankfully, the little girl, named Serenity, is now out of the hospital and recovering at home. Surveillance footage captured the heartbreaking moment when Serenity picked up the gun from the couch and unintentionally fired it, injuring her right hand. 23-year-old Orlando Young, a family relative, was said to have been watching the child and later told cops he had left a handgun on the couch while watching TV.
Somewhere during that time, young Serenity innocently picked up the gun and within seconds, a shot was fired. The girl begins to scream as Young looks on perplexed before he realizes what had just happened. Serenity was rushed to the hospital and is recovering from her hand injury — but while she’s expected to recover, Young was charged with child neglect that caused great bodily harm.

According to CBS Miami, he is currently being held at Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Center, and it remains unclear whether he has hired a lawyer or entered a plea yet.
