The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Alisha Lalani, and they were charged with battery on a police horse. The officer who first witnessed the slap claimed that he was performing lawful duties in the area of Central Avenue and 3rd Street North when the incident went down.

The officer said while he was riding his police horse, he saw Lalani walk behind his partner, who was also riding a police horse. The witnessing officer saw Lalani open his hand and slap the horse’s rear end.

The witnessing officer said, “[Lalani] walked behind my partner, who was also riding a police horse when I observed him slap the rear end of my partners police horse with an open hand.”

The two police officers who were riding the police horses claim that the horses were wearing the St. Petersburg police department’s insignia, along with flashing red and blue lights on the animals.

When the officers asked Lalani about his actions, apparently, he told them that “he didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to hit the horses.”
