Florida Man Arrested After Attempting To Break In & Kidnap WWE Star Sonya Deville At Home

On Sunday (Aug 16), a Florida man was arrested after attempting to break into the home and kidnap WWE star Sonya Deville, 26, real name Daria Berenato. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Phillip A. Thomas, was also accused of planning the attack for eight months and stalking the former MMA fighter “on social media for years.”

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office charged Thomas with three felonies — attempted armed kidnapping, armed burglary and aggravated stalking — for his incident at Deville’s Lutz, Florida home. Police are also hitting him with misdemeanor criminal mischief and holding him without bond.

Deville has since addressed the incident on social media, taking to Twitter to write, “Thank you everyone for your love and concern. A very frightening experience but thankfully everyone is safe. A special thank you to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for their response and assistance. 🖤

Sheriff Chad Chronister shares that Thomas had been planning the alleged crime for eight months. He adds, “Our deputies are unveiling the suspect’s disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years. It’s frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder. Our deputies arrived within minutes and arrested this man who was clearly on a mission to inflict harm.”
