The incident occurred in Polk County when Rebecca Hyde and her boyfriend, David Tomor, went to a local McDonald’s and ordered a burger meal at the drive-thru. However, there was an issue with the order, and a man waiting behind them became impatient when their order took too long and got out of his car multiple times to scream at the couple, as reported by WFLA.
“The gentleman became irate, started honking and screaming — just was impatient — wanting everything to move. They were told at that point they couldn’t move forward, that McDonald’s has a policy they can’t walk outside to bring you your food,” said Tomor’s sister.

“When he did that, my brother got out of the car as well, noticed that he had a gun, and said, ‘I don’t want this fight, just go back to your car and take it for that.’ The guy didn’t like that answer,” she continued. The two men started physically attacking each other for the third time, and a fight broke out in the fast food restaurant’s parking lot. Rebecca also joined in on the fight.
After the physical altercation, the man followed the couple after they drove off from the drive-thru. The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Calvin Jordan Sousa.
“My brother was shot in the arm, which the bullets are still there at this point. They can not remove them. He may lose some feeling in his arm, then she was shot in the neck, and the bullet lodged into her jaw. Currently she is on life support, we are waiting daily. Improvements don’t seem to be happening too much, she’s pretty steady,”
Authorities charged Sousa with two counts of attempted murder, one count of firing into an occupied vehicle, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with Hyde’s medical expenses.
“My brother-in-law David was shot once in the arm but my sister-in-law Becca was not as lucky, she was hit in the neck and shoulder and has been in ICU for the last few days. Currently, the van that they had was their only means of transportation and it is in police custody for evidence along with their wallets phones etc. So transportation for her husband to get back and forth to the hospital has been difficult. And we all know bills continue to come whether we are well or not and she was the only income in the home at the time. Any donation big or small will help and will go to bills, transportation and medical expenses that are going to arise. Becca needs our support!!”
