Bob Plominski and Mike Ferrari said they received a citation on June 5 from the Eastland Cove Home Owners Association and were told to take down the flag by June 15 or pay a $50 fine. The couple explained that they placed the small flag on their mailbox for Pride Month and said they didn’t have an issue before with the display.

“We’ve done this before and it’s a simple showing of our pride to the community and it’s up for 30 days. We were in shock they were going to do that,” Plominsky explained to NBC Miami.

Ferrari added that the citation could have been issued because a member most likely was offended by the display. “I really think the citation is because it’s a gay pride flag and someone in the neighborhood is offended, simple as that,” he said. The HOA claims that they have no issues with the Pride flag but guidelines state that only American or military flags can be displayed on properties.

Plominsky says the flag will stay up until July 30 and they are not stepping down based on other people’s ideologies.

“We as a community worked really hard to earn and get to where we are today. We’re not going to back down on this one.”
