In a video, Shana Hudson,39, was arrested by deputies and escorted out of her home in handcuffs for falsely reporting theft. A person dressed like the Grinch could be seen walking behind Hudson and the arresting deputies. According to TOO FAB, the video was posted on the Lee County Sheriff’s Facebook page with the caption: “Riiiing Riiiing, Hey Shana, Who-ville Called, they want their Grinch back.”

On November 19, Hudson reported a theft at her home, claiming her recently purchased Christmas gifts for her children were stolen. Deputies sympathized with the case and contacted the American Legion and the sheriff’s Shop with a Cop initiative to surprise Hudson with the new gifts. However, they later received a tip from Crime Stoppers that Hudson lied about the robbery and hid the “stolen” gifts at a family member’s house.

The video also included the infamous theme song of The Grinch and various interview clips of Hudson discussing the false robbery with local news outlets. “I wanted my kids to have a decent Christmas, but now they’re not gonna have Christmas at all, because some thieves came and stole our s–t,” she said to reporters at the time.

[Please] turn yourself in and bring us back our stuff, so me and our kids can have a good Christmas,” Hudson continued. Sheriff Carmine Marceno called Hudson’s behavior “pathetic” and “unacceptable” due to the nature of the crime.

“This pathetic behavior is unacceptable, especially given the circumstances this holiday season. This woman took advantage of the system and is now paying the price for her selfish choices.”

Hudson has been released on bond and she is expected to appear in court on December 26.
