The 2026 World Cup is supposed to be the biggest soccer party on the planet, but things just took an ugly, all too familiar turn. Streaming superstar Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. found himself right in the middle of blatant disrespect during Argentina’s Round of 32 thriller against Cape Verde at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Now, soccer’s highest governing body is stepping in after viral footage exposed some nasty behavior coming from the stands.
Speed, who was out there pulling for the underdogs in a Cape Verde jersey, was doing what he does best, broadcasting live to his millions of followers and bringing that signature energy to the match. But the vibe completely shifted when a confrontation sparked between the 21-year-old Black creator and a group of Argentina supporters. In one clip that immediately caught fire across social media, an Argentina fan can be seen leaning over the railing, shouting at Speed in Spanish, telling him to “go cry to the zoo.”
While some tried to excuse the hostility by pointing out Speed’s well-known history of trolling Lionel Messi and backing Cristiano Ronaldo, those who know how to read in between the lines wasn’t trying to hear it. Other clips shows Speed encountering more racist moments from fans with one seemingly calling him the n-word. There is a clear line between standard stadium banter and bringing straight up racism into the building and FIFA wasn’t about to sweep this one under the rug either. With the world watching, the organization quickly put out a statement confirming they are officially on the case.

“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society. The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect,” the governing body announced. “FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on 3 July 2026 and immediately initiated an investigation.”
This isn’t just an isolated look for the tournament, either. The beautiful game has been dealing with an ugly undercurrent lately, as this probe comes right on the heels of France captain Kylian Mbappé having to publicly blast a Paraguayan senator for making slick, racist remarks about his background just days prior.
Under FIFA’s strict disciplinary rules, national federations can actually be held legally responsible for how their fans behave in the stands. Since the person who hurled the insult was rocking an Argentina jersey, the Argentine Football Association could be looking at heavy fines or even forced to play future matches in empty stadiums if FIFA decides to drop the hammer.
Speed hasn’t officially broken his silence on the investigation yet, but the message from the internet is loud and clear: protect Black creators, and keep that weak energy out of the stadium.
