Federal officials are reportedly upset over Kanye West and Drake’s support of Larry Hoover and called him “the worst of the worst” criminals.

Prosecutors were apparently surprised by the benefit concert and the #FreeLarryHoover movement as reported by TMZ due to the facts of Hoover’s case. Hoover was convicted and sentenced to murder in 1973 despite not being the one who committed the act and called for the death of a man who was accused of stealing from his gang in Illinois. Additionally, Hoover was given additional sentences for drug conspiracy extortion and participating in organized crime. He is currently serving six consecutive life sentences in prison.
This is not the first time Kanye West has expressed his support for Hoover. In 2018, he asked former President Donald Trump to pardon Hoover but Trump turned the request down. Hoover’s request for a compassionate release was also turned down earlier this summer.

Many of Hoover’s supporters believe the government over sentenced him since he didn’t commit any murders and only participated in drug distribution.
