Fans, Of Viral South Korean Band BTS, Donate Over $300K To Coronavirus Relief

Inspired by BTS group member Suga, who donated $100M to his South Korean hometown, fans of the viral boy band have since donated over $333,000 towards coronavirus relief.

Subsequent to canceling dates in Seoul amidst the outbreak, the group refunded tickets, and their die-hard fans, in-turn, invested the money in relief of the deadly virus.

Currently, South Korea has seen the second-highest number of outbreaks in the world, just after China, the land in which it originated and has affected over 90,000 people.

Furthermore, speaking on the influx of donations, an official of the Korea Disaster Relief Association says, “The actual amount is likely much higher than the official count. Donations made under individual members’ names without any mention of BTS were not counted in the statistics because it’s difficult for us to figure out whether the names are attributed to BTS members or the donors’ real names.”

In addition, they added, “Our website went down for about 10 minutes amid a flurry of donations Friday. We feel grateful about their donations and believe their contribution will bring a positive ripple effect across the globe.”
