Elon Musk is reportedly making a tremendous amount of changes not just on the social media platform itself but also internally. After reportedly firing several executives following his $44 billion acquisition of the company last week, Business Insider claims the tech mogul has ordered the remaining employees to start committing to an 84-hour-a-week work schedule.

Musk has been very vocal about his upcoming plans for Twitter, and now he’s turning his attention to his employees, many of which are currently facing being fired if they can’t amount to his expectations. An internal message reportedly sent by Musk last week revealed that “the expectation is literally to work 24/7 to get this out,” referring to the overhaul of the verification feature which will cost users $8 per month.

Sources tell the publication that some staffers believe they have been set a certain amount of tasks since Friday in order for Musk and his team to see who is working hard and who will ultimately be let go. What’s more, they’ve also been left in the dark about whether the additional working hours will lead to an increased salary or overtime pay.

A deadline has been set for the tasks that Musk expects to be completed sometime this month — the specific date was not disclosed, but it’s said to be closer to the first or second week, with a set of managers having been told they are required to inspect each staff member’s performance during this period.

Some Twitter managers have reportedly been so overwhelmed by the workload, they’ve allegedly been forced to sleep in their offices so that the expectations are met in a reasonable time. Needless to say, everyone at Twitter is aware that people will be losing their jobs in the upcoming weeks, and if they can’t keep up with Musk’s pace, they will subsequently be forced to leave.

The SpaceX founder has been very vocal about his future plans for Twitter and where he sees the social media platform going in years to come. Given his success in the tech business, it’s arguable that Musk’s leadership could potentially see Twitter flourish to much greater heights than before, but by the look of things, his staff is concerned that the heavy workload will evidently lead them to exhaustion.

Musk has yet to address the latest report.
