Elon Musk’s ex-wife Justine Musk has jumped to their daughter’s defense after she applied to legally change her name, her identity, and cut all ties with her billionaire father. It was reported earlier this week that the 18-year-old, who was given the name Xavier Alexander Musk at birth, had requested to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, having opted to use the surname of her mother instead.
Part of her decision to alter her name was due to Vivian changing her gender recognition from male to female but also to disassociate herself from her father, whom she clearly doesn’t think highly of. The court documents were filed at the Superior Court of California, where Elon’s daughter cited her reason for the name switch, “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
“I had a weird childhood,” my 18 year old said to me. “I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am.”
I said, “I’m very proud of you.”

Now, Justine, who shares twins Griffin and (formerly Xavier) alongside triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damien with the Tesla tech mogul, has spoken out to throw her support behind Vivian’s decision in wanting to start a new life for herself. On Twitter, Justine posted an exchange she had with one of her twins, though she didn’t mention which one of the two the message originated from. It read, “I had a weird childhood,’ my 18 year old said to me. ‘I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am’. I said, ‘I’m very proud of you.’ ‘I’m proud of myself!’”
Vivian filed the documents back in April, shortly after she had turned 18, but the news only became public on Monday, one day after Elon had celebrated Father’s Day with his family.
Elon and Justine were married from 2000 to 2008 and welcomed five children during that time. He also has another child, X Æ A-Xii, two, and Exa Dark, six months, whom he shares with singer Grimes.
Elsewhere, just last month, Elon became a trending topic on social media after sharing his concerns about platforms such as TikTok and how it is slowly but surely “destroying civilization.”
“Is TikTok destroying civilization? Some people think so. Or perhaps social media in general,” he tweeted, which went on to amass over 420,000 likes and 44k+ replies from people weighing in on the matter. One user responded by saying the algorithm appeared to be so good, that it made it hard for them to get off the addicting social app.
“the algorithm tik tok uses is addictive. it gets to know you so well that it’s hard to get off the app,” the Twitter user wrote. Another user, who attracted over 3.7k likes with their tweet, said, “hmm, tiktok is kinda just like watching dumber, shorter, more addicting tv. social media in general tho, i think is an extension of chat rooms or message boards, tends to make people act pretty stupid.”
