During an interview with X Prize Foundation founder Peter Diamandis, Elon Musk said many people will die during the travel to Mars but it will be worth the “amazing experience. “Going to Mars reads like that advert for Shackleton going to the Antarctic. You know it is dangerous. It’s uncomfortable, and it’s a long journey. You might not come back alive, but it is a glorious adventure and it will be an amazing experience … Yeah, honestly, a bunch of people will probably die in the beginning,” he said.

Musk is expecting Space X to make the voyage in 2026 so humans can set foot on the planet. He’s previously expressed his wishes to build a city on the red planet to prove that humans can build civilizations on other planets. NASA says its goal is to reach Mars by 2033.
