Elon Musk announced Thursday he has found a woman to take over as the new CEO for Twitter. He didn’t name who the woman is but he did say she will be starting the new job in 6 weeks.
The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet Thursday that his role will transition to being Twitter’s executive chairman and chief technology officer.
The announcement comes months after Musk pledged in December to step down as the head of Twitter as soon as he found someone “foolish enough to take the job.” As we previously reported, Twitter users were dragging Musk and started a poll for him to step down. He began to receive major backlash when he reportedly fired hundreds of employees to save costs for Twitter. On top of that, he introduced Twitter Blue, a subscription service where users can access to additional tools and further customizations for a monthly subscription.
In December he asked his fans to engage in a poll where he quizzed them on whether he should step down from his role at the firm. It’s unclear what prompted him to ask the question, but after the poll had come to an end, the results revealed that 57.5% of those people voted for Elon to focus his attention elsewhere.
Over 17 million users ha voted in the poll, where the tech mogul added that he’d abide by the results regardless of the outcome. But given that the numbers were clearly not in his favor, it has yet to be seen whether or not Elon will actually end up stepping down as CEO or whether he was just looking to get his follower riled up.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” he asked his followers, and 57.5% said yes. The poll sparked another wide conversation among social media users, who think Elon may have already found his replacement and was slowly but surely easing his followers into what could potentially be the announcement of a successor. Now he has officially announced his replacement.
