The move comes just a day after a mother of one of Dahmer’s victims spoke out. She condemned folks for wanting to buy and wear “evil” Dahmer costumes for Halloween.

The mother happened to be Shirley Hughes, whose deaf son Tony Hughes was among 17 young men murdered by Dahmer. Shirley told TMZ that Netflix’s series about the serial killer was already “super triggering,” and retailers selling Dahmer-inspired clothes only furthers the outrage.

Hughes made note of the the hurt that Netflix and these in-person and online retailers are causing for the families of Dahmer’s victims, specifically adding how horrible it is to profit off of the tragic deaths of these young men.

Hughes says she nor any of the other victims’ families have seen one red cent from massive streaming company or online retailer. She demanded that the ads on eBay be immediately taken down, so long as the company had zero intentions of donating any profits to the victims’ families.

Lastly, Hughes told the publication that while people are still able to dress up as Dahmer for their own fun and entertainment, Netflix should have never made nor streamed a series about him, especially before Halloween. She says none of the families would be re-victimized and no one would be thinking about dressing up in Dahmer costumes for this year’s Halloween.

Just a day after Hughes’ comments with the publication, a spokesperson for eBay tells the site that they have made the initiative to rectify the situation.

The spokesperson said that the company has specific policies in place that prohibit such listings that glorify hate, violence and criminal activities—all of which suits the case here.

The official policy, listed on the eBay site, says there is no space for “items closely associated with or that benefit violent felons, their acts, or crime scenes within the past 100 years.” Therefore, eBay is sifting through its listings and pulling items that go against its policies.

  1. No one condones what Jeffrey Dahmer did however it’s taking it a little too far what the mother of one of his victims did.
People dress up as monsters and criminals for Halloween regardless of if they were real or fiction. Halloween is a time to tell ghost stories and wear costumes and be scared for fun.
This mother’s son made poor choices and it was also his fault the position he put his self in. Yes Dahmer murdered him but he made a bad choice the victim did so he is also to blame as well.
We can holler about Dahmer but what about immortalizing someone like George Floyd who was a criminal all his life. He was a horrible monster too
