While celebrating his 49th birthday this weekend, the actor said people often confused him as a little girl growing up because he wore an afro and reportedly had “soft features” as a child. “I would say between the ages of 7 and 11, people thought that I was a little girl because I had really soft features and I had really soft Afro hair,” he said to TODAY’s Willie Geist. Johnson recalled his first day of fifth grade where a classmate asked him if he was a boy or a girl while riding the school bus.
“I sit down next to a kid, and within 60 seconds, he goes, ‘Can I ask you something? I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Are you a boy or a girl?’”
