Play stupid games, win stupid prizes: An alleged drunk father who allowed his 9-year-old son to get behind the wheel of his vehicle is currently recovering in the hospital after being accidentally run over.

The chaotic scene unfolded on Sunday, October 6, when Clejuan Williams, 36, attempted to teach his son how to drive. According to court records, during this lesson, Williams instructed his son to press down on a pedal. However, the eager boy accidentally floored the gas pedal instead, which caused the car to move abruptly in reverse. Williams was standing in the door jam on the driver’s side when he was dragged under the car as it sped backward, crashing into a pole across the street. Dramatic footage captured this wild moment.

Fortunately, his son and another child present during the incident were uninjured. Unfortunately, Williams sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His current condition remains unknown. While the investigation into the incident continues, it is known that Williams now faces charges of Wrongful Entrustment of a Motor Vehicle and Endangering Children.

Allowing a child to drive, especially while under the influence of alcohol, poses severe consequences from both legal and ethical perspectives. Legally, parents can face criminal charges for child endangerment, reckless endangerment, or contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Such charges can result in significant fines, loss of custody, or even jail time. Additionally, if an accident occurs, the repercussions may extend to civil liability, where the parent could be held responsible for damages caused by the child’s actions. Insurance claims might also be denied, leading to financial burdens that could have lasting effects on the family.

Toledo Police Officer Prince Flores spoke with WTVG about the situation and shared his thoughts on the matter, stating, “It is heartbreaking to see because as a parent, when you see that happen you think about how you could prevent it. As a parent, your job is to make sure your kids are safe and make sound decisions. You want to make sure that you’re putting them in the best possible position to be OK. You don’t want to put them in a situation that they are not ready for or mature enough to realize.”
