Drake Admits Serena Williams Was Muse Behind Hit Song “Too Good”

Drake revealed in newly released studio footage that his song “Too Good” featuring Rihanna was inspired by Serena Williams. The video shows the rapper discussing his inspiration behind the song with his mother, Sandi Graham.

The December 9, 2022, footage shows Drake performing, and he confesses that he wrote the song with Williams in Mind. “I get heavy on a couple of joints, but this is more about me and Serena,” he explained to his mother. “It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them. So, I know what kind of song to make,” Drake continued. “If I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they like. So, I know Serena very well, and I know that she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she’ll also not hate me for it because it’s lighthearted,” the rapper emphasized. His mother then asked if Williams was seeing someone else, to which Drake responded, “I don’t know, mom.”

A close source said to Page Six in 2015 that Williams and Drake briefly dated in 2011, but things didn’t work out: “Even though it didn’t end that well, they have remained friends since. He has been at her side at a lot of tournaments recently, including Wimbledon in July, where he sat in her box next to her sister Venus.” The tennis player started dating her now-husband Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the couple announced their engagement in December 2016 and married in November 2017.
