On January 6, 2021, a violent mob of rioters stormed the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., in an unprecedented attack on American democracy. The shocking events that unfolded that day will forever be etched in the nation’s history as a dark moment of insurrection and chaos.

The rioters, many of whom were supporters of then-President Donald Trump, breached the Capitol building as Congress was in the process of certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election. They smashed windows, vandalized offices, and clashed with law enforcement officers in a brazen attempt to overturn the election results and disrupt the democratic process.

The images of the rioters ransacking the Capitol, waving Confederate flags, and chanting slogans in support of Trump were broadcast around the world, sending shockwaves through the political establishment and the American public.
