On Friday, former President Donald Trump responded to his alleged involvement with the Heritage Foundation’s proposed plan, Project 2025. If he won a second term, the radical plan would involve reshaping the federal government and daily American life.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.” According to CNN, the statement came after Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, faced backlash for suggesting the country was in the midst of a “second American Revolution” that would remain bloodless if the left allowed it to be.

Project 2025 is managed by several former Trump administration officials, whose policies include cracking down on immigration and making it easier to dismiss civil servants. However, it also proposes more controversial measures that Trump has not endorsed, such as banning pornography, reversing federal approval of the abortion pill, excluding certain contraceptives from coverage under the Affordable Care Act, and restricting transgender adults’ ability to transition.

The authors of Project 2025 emphasized restoring American life and protecting children. Paul Dans, head of Project 2025, was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management during Trump’s administration. The project’s roadmap includes contributions from Trump officials, including Ben Carson, Ken Cuccinelli, and Rick Dearborn. John McEntee, Trump’s former director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, is also a senior adviser for the project.

The Heritage Foundation claims that Project 2025 is a template for any future Republican president, not specifically for Trump. A spokesperson told the outlet, “We are a coalition of more than 110 conservative groups advocating policy and personnel recommendations for the next conservative president.”
