Donald Trump Declines Request To Testify At Impeachment Trial
On Thursday (Feb. 4), the House impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) requested Donald Trump testify at his upcoming Senate impeachment trial — which is trying to get the former POTUS on record taking responsibility with inciting the fatal January 6 riots at the Capitol. However, via his lawyers, 45 has declined to do so.
Trumps legal team has quickly responded to the invitation by rejecting the offer, putting the decision back in the court of the Democrats, who will know try to coerce Trump to give a testimony via a subpoena.

In Rep. Raskin’s request, it’s stated, “Two days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment. You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense. In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021. If you decline this invitation, we reserve any and all rights, including the right to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and inaction).”
Responding to the letter, Trump’s attorneys, Bruce Castor and David Schoen, stated, “The use of our Constitution to bring a purported impeachment proceeding is much too serious to try to play these games.” Trump’s adviser Jason Miller supported, “The President will not testify in an unconstitutional proceeding.”
