Donald Trump Calls For People To Protect “Our Asian Community” Amid The Coronavirus Pandemic

#Socialites, get into this! The President has been called out many times in recent weeks for referring to the novel coronavirus as the “Chinese virus.” John C. Yang, president and executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice said his remarks have led to a noticeable incline in hate incidents. State Assembly member Yuh-Line Niou, who represents New York City’s Chinatown even said that Trump is “fueling the flames of racism with all of his comments.”

Despite, the backlash from public figures and many Americans, Trump has continued to use that term. During a recent news conference, he even defended his rhetoric, saying the “It comes from China. That’s why.” He added that he wanted “to be accurate” while speaking about the virus. Trump further explained, “I have a great love for all of the people from our country. But as you know, China tried to say, at one point — maybe they stopped now — that it was caused by American soldiers. That can’t happen. That’s not going to happen. Not as long as I’m president.”

Today, it appears that Trump took a new approach while discussing this topic. In a tweet, Trump actually called for people to “protect our Asian community” while saying that it’s not their fault the virus has spread. He tweeted,

“It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people and the spreading of the Virus….”

He added,

“It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people and the spreading of the Virus….”

Meanwhile, it’s being reported that confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus exceeded 300,000 worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins tracker on Saturday, and 20,000 of those infected in the United States, according to a Washington Post. The CDC is continuing to urge people to stay inside to prevent the spread of the virus.
