Dolly Parton Twice Rejected Donald Trump’s Presidential Medal of Freedom Offers
In a recent appearance on the TODAY show, Country Music superstar Dolly Parton revealed that she twice rejected Donald Trump‘s Presidential Medal of Freedom offers. In addition to a $1 million donation to help fund coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University, which helped make the Moderna vaccine; the “Jolene” singer, since 1995, has been running her literacy program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and Dollywood Foundation.
Parton explains, she twice turned down the former POTUS because her husband was sick. She says, “I couldn’t accept it because my husband [Carl Dean] was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID.” She goes on to reveal that she’s heard President Joe Biden might also offer her the award, but isn’t too sure she’ll accept it from him either.

She adds, “Now I feel like if I take it, I’ll be doing politics, so I’m not sure. But I don’t work for those awards. It’d be nice but I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it.” Responding back, host Hoda Kotb reassures her, “I think everyone thinks you might deserve it.”
