Dentist Who Extracted Patient’s Tooth On Hoverboard Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

An Anchorage, Alaska dentist, who extracted a patient’s tooth on camera while riding a hoverboard, has been ordered to pay $2.2 million in restitution and has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his viral stunts, Medicaid fraud and other crimes. In addition, post-prison, the dentist will not be allowed to practice medicine for 10 more years while serving a decade-long probation.

On Monday (Sept. 14), Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton sentenced Dr. Seth Lookhart, 35, to 12 years behind bars after he was convicted nine months prior for at least 46 charges; including Medicaid fraud, embezzlement, reckless endangerment and unlawful dental acts, like nearly killing several patients by frequently sedating them for extended periods of time.

The lid to the can of his schemes popped after a former employee told investigators in 2017 how Lookhart — who formerly worked at Alaska Dental Arts in 2015 and bought the business in 2016, changing its name to Clear Creek Dental — increased his profits by consistently over-sedating patients. In 2016, he and his former office manager Shauna Cranford billed Medicaid almost $2 million in unjustified IV sedation expenses. In addition, patients have testified about having more teeth removed than permitted, plus more claims.
