Deceased Man Banned From Own Funeral After Family Brings Him To Church Sitting In A Chair

A deceased man was recently banned from attending his own funeral after his family brought him to a church sitting upright in a chair, versus in a casket.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Che Lewis, was shot and killed in Trinidad and Tobago alongside his father, Adlay Lewis, 54, inside their home. After his passing, presumably per family wishes, Lewis’ body was embalmed in a sitting position and placed on a chair for his last ride before being buried.

In photos, Lewis is seen dressed up in a pink suit jacket, white pants, pink striped tie and sunglasses. As Lewis procession made its way through the capital of Port of Spain to St. John the Evangelist Church in Diego Martin, people stopped dead in their tracks at the sight. However, things came to an abrupt halt as the procession neared the church and staff members reportedly denied him entry; leaving him outside.

When answering how Lewis ended up sitting upright in a chair, the owner of Dennie’s Funeral Home responded, “The family requested it, but it was something we had on our bucket list to do so when the request came it wasn’t foreign to us because we are aware of funerals like that abroad. We had him by us for three days to monitor how he was doing in the chair before we took it public.”

Subsequent to the backlash, and possible £750 penalty (towards the funeral home), Lewis ended up being buried in a casket along with his father. It’s also reported that Lewis’ brother, Abisaja John, 45, was also shot dead int he family home on July 24.
