Police arrived at the room around 7:40 p.m. at the Mandarin Oriental after responding to a call about a man shot on the 8th floor. The woman, identified as 50-year-old Shanteari Weems, didn’t allow officers to enter the room and told them she would shoot herself if they attempted to come in. During the confrontation, officers asked Weems if there was a shooting victim in her room, and she replied, “he’s a child molester.” The male shooting victim said he was shot in the leg after police detained Weems.

Weems explained to investigators that she and her husband had been married for five years and lived together in Baltimore. She learned about the molestation accusations against her husband after several children from her daycare, Lil Kidz Kastle, told her he was molesting them. Weems reported her husband to the authorities in Baltimore. Her husband is a retired Baltimore City police officer.

Officers also said they found two guns in the room and letters from Weems apologizing to the children for her husband’s actions. On the daycare’s Facebook page, their motto is to serve the community and respond to the needs, interests and priorities of parents and children.

“The mission of Lil Kidz Kastle Day Care Center is to support and respond to the needs, interests, and priorities of our children, parents, teachers, and community. We provide the highest quality education and care for our children who represent the diversity of our community. We provide instructional programs to assist infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children with early educational and childhood development. Each child has abilities that must be valued and respected. We provide our services to families of all income levels by accepting purchase of care vouchers and offering sibling discounts to families with multiples. As their children participate in our program, families are welcomed, encouraged, and supported each step of the way. We aim to build a trustworthy relationship between our families so that they know theyre leaving their little Queens and Kings in good hands.”

The daycare is currently closed due to the investigation, the Baltimore County Police said in a statement.

“Due to the sensitive circumstances leading up to this incident, the Baltimore County Police Department continues supporting the impacted families. As this investigation moves forward, the daycare facility remains closed.”

The couple was in Washington D.C for an event where Weems’ husband attended an event at the nation’s capitol building. She also told investigators that she didn’t want to kill her husband but wanted to harm him but added that she wanted to end her own life. Court documents said she was charged with assault with intent to kill and is currently held without bond.
