Days after Gov. Greg Abbott announced the executive order that would allow restaurants and stores at 100 percent capacity along with lifting the mask mandate. A restaurant owner of Picos said masks will continue to be mandatory in their establishment. However, customers threatened to make calls to ICE if they continue to move forward with the mandate.

Picos co-owner Monica Richards said customers have also left threatening messages on social media and added that they don’t know the hardships her staff went through during the pandemic.

“It was just horrific. People don’t understand unless you’re in our business what it felt like, how hard it was to go through everything we went through during COVID. For people to be negative toward us for trying to remain safe, so that this doesn’t continue to happen, just makes zero sense to us.”

The mask mandate will officially be lifted on March 10 despite the rising number of cases in the country and only eight percent of Texas has been vaccinated as reported by Insider. In response, several people say they will happily support the restaurant to keep it afloat despite the new state mandate.
