Cruise Ships Stranded At Sea As Coastguard Refuses To Let Them Dock In U.S
The U.S. Coast Guard has instructed that all cruise ships must remain at sea during the Coronavirus crisis. They also directed severely sick passengers to be sent to the countries where their ships are registered to.
For the majority of the ships that are trying to dock in South Florida they are going to have to return to the Bahamas, which already has low stock on essential items after dealing with last year‘s hurricane.
The rules that were put in place March 29 apply to those carrying over 50 people and was signed into action by Coast Guard Rear Admiral E.C. Jones, whose district includes Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico. There are currently at least 6,000 passengers stuck at sea.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that the healthcare system is already overwhelm and ill-equipped to deal with more patients,
“Just to drop people off at the place where we’re having the highest number of cases right now just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” DeSantis said.
Two cruise ships off Florida, now have C/V stricken passengers, mixed with healthy ones. The Gov of Fla will not allow them to dock, saying this would be too great a strain. Passenger: I am an American citizen and the Gov of Fla is saying I can’t come home. He doesn’t care.MSNBC.
