Couple Charged For Murder of Pregnant Black Woman Who They Stuffed In Suitcase

A white couple has been charged for reportedly strangling a pregnant black mom and stuffing her body in a suitcase. She was six-months pregnant with a baby boy.

Thomas Johnson, 37, and Emmalei Trevathan, 24, were charged in the horrific murder of Brittany Samone Smith during a traffic stop in Raleigh.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have both been charged with murder, the murder of an unborn child, and concealment of a corpse.

“On Monday, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation, from a missing person’s case, following the discovery of a body stuffed in a bag, near the shoreline of the Neuse River, in Raleigh,” a statement read.

Smith was reported missing on Feb. 4, and police then discovered a body stuffed in a suitcase near the Neuse River in Raleigh.

“It’s safe to say that this is no accident,” said Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker.

“No one deserves to die like that,” added Dale Williams, Smith’s friend. “Frightened, in pain, and alone.”

As of now, the motive for the killing is unclear.
