During a recent appearance on BigBoyTV, Tony Rock addressed the critics who say he’s always talking about Will Smith for clout.
While discussing the viral moment between his brother Chris and Will Smith, Tony wanted to set the record straight that he’s not talking about this for clout. “I don’t need to talk about it for clout.” He said. “It’s my brother, I been doing standup for 25 years why would I need to talk about this for clout? It’s my brother, you guys don’t have siblings that you care deeply about? I love my family more than anything in the world. So why would I not be offended by something like this happening?”

Later in the interview, he also says that Will Smith lied about reaching out to Chris a few days after the incident as the actor previously claimed in a YouTube video posted last July. “That wasn’t true, that wasn’t true,” Rock said on the radio show. “I think like, two nights later, he said, ‘I reached out to Chris, and he didn’t want to talk.’ That wasn’t true.”
As we previously, In the nearly six-minute YouTube video, Smith said that he had urged Rock to reach out to him to talk about the slap. “The message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is he will reach out,” explained Smith, who then directly apologized to Rock. “My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” he said.
As we all know Will Smith’s apology came after Chris Rock made a harsh joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith which led Will to walk on stage and slap the comedian. During the apology, Smith also addressed questions about whether or not Pinkett Smith, who was seen on camera rolling her eyes at Rock’s joke comparing her buzzcut to the one Demi Moore sports in “G.I. Jane,” had urged him to charge the stage. The actor said his wife said nothing to spur him to go on stage and assault Rock. “It’s like, you know, I made a choice on my own, from my own experiences, from my history with Chris,” Smith said. “Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, babe. I want to say sorry to my kids and my family for the heat that I brought on all of us.”
Furthermore, Tony, who Smith cast in the 2005 romantic comedy “Hitch,” added that he’s surprised Smith has never reached out to him either. “He doesn’t owe me anything, I just thought we were better than that,” he said. “My phone number has never changed. So, I just thought I’d get a phone call one day like, ‘Ay, let’s just you and I just talk.’ It hasn’t happened, so I guess it’s not going to happen.”
