While speaking with the news site, Chingy admitted that his career took a serious blow when Sidney Starr came out and alleged that she and the St. Louis rapper had smashed. Although Starr later confessed to lying and eventually apologized to Chingy for starting the rumor, the damage had already been done.

The whole incident began when Chingy and Sidney Starr posed for a few photos together, which began making its rounds on social media in 2009. The social media personality would soon address the viral pictures and allege that she and the rapper were in a relationship.

Immediately after Starr’s claim, social media took the comment and ran with it. Commenting on the alleged relationship, many people began questioning Chingy’s sexuality, which then led to a downward spiral of his fast-tracked career. In 2012, Sidney Starr confessed to making the whole thing up in order to advance her career, and she was apologetic to Chingy.

Recently speaking with TMZ, Chingy called out all of the “bullsh*t,” that comes with being in the industry, like “untrue rumors” and “shady characters who can tend to derail your character and sabotage [your career].” After vaguely mentioning Sidney Starr, Chingy is directly questioned about their incident, to which he admitted how badly the rumor affected his career.

He said, “When that happened I lost a lot of stuff based off a lie, which was just, that was the most oddest thing I’ve ever seen. Nah, man, when the individual apologized, and it so-called went away, which it took years to blow away, nah, man. Ain’t nothing good happened from that for me.”

He continued, “When an artist, like my caliber who’s sold millions of records and was once one of the biggest artists in the world, they look at that different. If they’re not seeing you at these award shows all the time or on the radio all the time, they’re like, ‘Well, where’s he at? What’s wrong?’ But, what was wrong was a lot of sabotage and bull crap in this industry.”

When asked if he made up with Sidney Starr or accepted her apology, Chingy said, “There’s no… I mean to be honest with you, man like it was spilled milk, and I lost a lot from it. That person gained. I’m not going, I’m not gonna hold on to something. It is what it is. Apologize. Cool. I’m going this way and let that individual do their thing… But that situation, that hurt my career. Like I’m just gonna be honest about it, it really did.”
