Chicago Mom Drags 18-Year-Old Son To Police Station After Recognizing Him As Suspect In $100 Armed Train Robbery
No games! A Chicago mother turned her son into police after the teen allegedly robbed a train conductor at gunpoint to buy a snack before class.
According to the Daily Mail, 18-year-old Zion Brown, from Loyola University was charged with armed robbery for allegedly pulling out a black semi-automatic handgun last Tuesday aboard a Metra Electric Line train and stealing the conductor’s petty cash. The robbery happened at 2:07 pm as a train was arriving at the Van Buren Street Station in downtown Chicago. Surveillance images showed the conductor standing on the platform with his hands raised above his head as the teen hid the weapon into his pants and made off. He was able to take off on foot and remained free until later that night. However, after recognizing him through news coverage, the mother quickly acted and drove him to the Calumet City police department to surrender.

The news site reported that during a bond court appearance, Brown’s defense attorney told Judge Maryam Ahmad that the teen committed the crime because he was hungry and needed to eat before class. The judge had some sympathy but noted that she too was once a hungry student but never resorted to violence to finance snacks, CWB Chicago reported. Cook County Judge Maryam Ahmad ordered Brown held without bail, Loyola Phoenix reported, citing the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
It was said that Brown took $100 from the conductor. During an interview with police, Brown also allegedly said the weapon he displayed during the robbery was actually a BB gun, which he claimed to have thrown into a dumpster in an alley afterward. Brown had no prior criminal record.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 4.
