While speaking with the New York Times, five weeks after the actor’s death, Pastor Derrick Boseman, Chadwick’s eldest brother, recalled what would be their final conversation. “Man, I’m in the fourth quarter, and I need you to get me out of the game,” Derrick said Chadwick told him the day before he died. Derrick told the Times he asked Chadwick what he meant, “but then realized that he was tired. He was ready to go.”
”When he told me that, I changed my prayer from, ‘God heal him, God save him,’ to ‘God, let your will be done,’” Derrick said. “And the next day he passed away.” Derrick went on to praise his brother’s talents, stating: “Chad was gifted. He’s probably the most gifted person I’ve ever met.” As we previously reported, Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016, however, he chose to keep the news private.

The “Black Panther” actor’s other brother Kevin Boseman, also remembered the late star: “I have been trying to remember Chad and not Chadwick,” Kevin, 48, told the publication, after having spent time at the brothers’ childhood home in Anderson, South Carolina. Kevin explained that when a family member becomes a star, “You have to start sharing that person with the world. [But] I always endeavored to just treat him like my brother.”
Kevin noted that during his time here, Chadwick “always did his best. His best was incredible.”
