“Glee” Creators Are Establishing A College Fund For Naya Rivera’s Son

While fans, friends, and close celebrity friends are still mourning the loss of “Glee,” star Naya Rivera, the creators of the hit show are coming together for the late star’s family.

In a statement released Tuesday, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan paid tribute to Rivera, who drowned at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California last week. The statement read: “Naya wasn’t a series regular when we cast her on ‘Glee,’” they wrote. “She didn’t have more than a few lines in the pilot. But it didn’t take more than an episode or two for us to realize that we had lucked into finding one of the most talented, special stars we would ever have the pleasure of working with,” Variety quotes.

While praising her for her musical performances and “humor and humanity” that she brought to her character’s relationship with Heather Morris’ character, Brittany, the creators said “it was one of the first times an openly lesbian, high school relationship was seen on network television and Naya understood what ‘Brittana’ meant to the many young women who were seeing themselves represented on television for the first time,” the three explained. From there, they concluded by revealing that they are currently in the process of creating a college fund for Rivera’s four-year-old son, Josey.

”Our hearts go out to her family, especially her mom, Yolanda, who was a big part of the Glee family and her son Josey. The three of us are currently in the process of creating a college fund for the beautiful son Naya loved most of all.

9-Year-Old Killed, 2 Teens Wounded In New Orleans Shooting

An innocent 9-year-old boy was killed while two teenagers were wounded in a shooting in New Orleans.

According to NOLA.com, the shooting happened in the 2100 block of Pauger Street on Monday. While the 9-year-old died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head, a 13-year-old was shot in the leg and a 15/16-year-old was shot in the stomach. They were taken to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition. There is no motive and no suspects are in custody at this time, according to Superintendent Shaun Ferguson. Meanwhile, he asked anyone who knows anything about the shooting to call Crimestoppers. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information.

The youngest victim has been identified as little Devante Bryant, who would have turned 10 on July 31. In a heartbreaking interview, his father, Donald Bryant, told WWL-TV that he found his son lying outside near their 7th Ward home unresponsive. “He was a baby, an innocent baby,” Donald said. “He’s my baby.”

The tragic incident brought an emotional press conference to the 7th Ward by NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson and Mayor LaToya Cantrell. They called the tragedy “unthinkable.”

“We are better than this New Orleans, and we should be better than this,” Ferguson said.

UPDATE: White Couple Arrested For Attacking Black Hotel Worker And Calling Her A “Monkey”

Cops have been on the hunt for Philip Sarner, 39, and Emily Orbay, 29, since June 26 following an incident where they attacked a black hotel worker.

As we previously reported, surveillance footage captured the moment the Long Island couple assaulted Crystal Caldwell, 59, of Groton, Connecticut, while they stayed at the Quality Inn in Mystic, Connecticut. The victims said she was beaten after a man called the front desk at about 11 am to complain that his hot water wasn’t working. She told him that she could either send a repairman or move them to another room. Fro there, the man reportedly got angry and then told her he was going to send his girlfriend to the lobby to “kick her ass.” Caldwell said she hung up on the man but minutes later, the man showed up to confront her then attacked her.

Caldwell said she was repeatedly called a “monkey” and claimed the couple also said: “Black Lives Matter? Your life doesn’t matter, you don’t deserve to live on this earth.” After months, the NYPD and US Marshals Service took the couple into custody early Monday in Brooklyn, New York.  Police said that Sarner will be charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault, while Orbay will be charged with two counts of third-degree assault. 

In addition to that, both of them will also face a charge of intimidation based on bigotry and bias, according to NBC Connecticut.

Grant Imahara, ‘Mythbusters’ Host, Dies At 49

Socialites, we have more unfortunate news to share. Grant Imahara, an electrical engineer and roboticist who hosted the popular science show MythBusters and Netflix’s White Rabbit Project, has died.

Sadly, Imahara died suddenly following a brain aneurysm, according to The Hollywood Reporter, citing Discovery Communications on Monday night.

“We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant,” Discovery said in a statement the news outlet and Variety. “He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

Aside from being a TV star, Grant also worked behind the scenes for 9 years at LucasFilm. He worked out inventions for the THX and Industrial Light and Magic divisions that showed up in some of the biggest sci-fi films of all time, TMZ notes. Imahara also worked on 2 of the ‘Matrix’ movies, “Galaxy Quest,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” and ‘Terminator 3.’

Adam Savage, a former “MythBusters” host, shared a message to Grant, the “brilliant engineer, artist and performer.”

“I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.”
