While Azealia Banks shares a controversial take on Karmelo Anthony’s guilty verdict — in the fatal April 2025 stabbing of Austin Metcalf, 17 — fellow New York rapper Cardi B takes a different stance.
As we previously shared earlier today, a White judge read the verdict after an all-White jury deliberated for less than 3 hours.
The jury convicted the Black teen of first-degree murder, leaving him in tears in a Texas courtroom. Hours later, Anthony — who was 17 at the time of the incident and now 19 — was sentenced to 35 years in prison, eligible for parole in half that time, 17.5 years. He was previously facing a sentence ranging from 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
Azealia Banks And Cardi B React To Karmelo Anthony’s Conviction In Austin Metcalf’s Fatal Stabbing
While reacting to the verdict on X, we previously shared how Azealia Banks condemned Anthony as “f***ing guilty” and not at all eligible for self-defense.
Meanwhile, Cardi B took to X and called out the “disgusting” verdict, demanding justice for Anthony. She wrote, “Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!” She continued to repost a tweet claiming Anthony just saved someone’s life 4 years ago and that he is a victim of character assassination.
Cardi also reposted a tweet calling for justice for Karmelo Anthony and Cyrus Carmack-Belton. The latter is the 14-year-old Black boy who gas station owner Rick Chow wrongfully accused of stealing a water bottle and shot in the back in a May 2023. Last week, over three years later, a jury acquitted Chow in the fatal shooting in Columbia, South Carolina.
