Camila Cabello reveals she had therapy after feeling ‘paralyzed’ over split from Shawn Mendes
Socialites, Camila Cabello has opened up about her split from Shawn Mendes, revealing that she endured a lot of anxiety after the pair called it quits back in November 2021.
The Havana hitmaker shared a two-year relationship with Shawn, whom she began dating shortly after collaborating on their hit song, Señorita, in 2019, which went on to become the third best-selling single worldwide that year.
And though their breakup was said to have been amicable, in a recent interview with E! News’ Daily Pop, Camila expressed how she began to battle anxiety, subsequently preventing her from going back to work and finishing her third studio album, Familia.
“There was a time where my anxiety felt so bad, I was like, ‘I don’t feel like I can go in the studio,’” the 25-year-old recalled.
Working on her album, which hits stores and streaming services on April 8, had to be put on hold as Camila described her emotions at the time as a “paralyzing feeling” that left her wanting to do “anything to make myself feel better.”
“My life was so bad and so painful that I was like, ‘If you tell me that eating s*** off the ground will make me feel better, I will do it.’ I was like, ‘Yes, of course, therapy. All of it,’” she continued.

“I just felt so vulnerable. It was so hard to talk about [the split]. It was the first time I talked about those things that I’d only ever talked to my mom and my therapist about.”
It wasn’t long after ending her relationship with Shawn that Camila decided to commit herself to therapy, explaining how it became the only way in which she could find the strength to overcome personal issues that had derived from the split.
In an official statement made by Shawn and Mendes in November, the two stressed that while their relationship had run its course, their love for one another was “stronger than ever” as they assured fans they would carry on as close friends.
The 23-year-old Canadian-born pop star reiterated those comments earlier this month while appearing On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

“[We’re] so friendly. I mean, I loved Camila first for so many years and that’s never gonna change,” Shawn assured the radio personality.
“I think most people have that fear [of breaking up], but in a lot of ways, I think [it] can be a blessing, too, because it can really show you that you are [strong], which is necessary.”
