#Socialites, are we here for it? While slamming President Donald Trump, 79, California Governor Gavin Newsom, 58, says he will consider running for the White House after the 2026 midterm elections.
Gavin Newsom Slams ‘Invasive Species’ And ‘Wrecking Ball’ President Donald Trump
The Democratic Governor, who has become one of President Trump’s most high-profile adversaries, confirmed his election ambitions in an interview with ‘CBS News Sunday Morning.’ The sit-down took place on Thursday (October 23) in San Jose, California. The full interview dropped on Sunday (October 26).
In the exclusive interview, Newsom slammed President Trump’s ICE raids and immigration crackdowns, and other harsh attacks against the American people. Newsom dubbed Trump an “invasive species,” not only for California, but for the entire “country, and for the world.” He also called him a “wrecking ball” wrecking havoc not only on the East Wing of the White House, but “wrecking alliances, truth, trust, tradition, and institutions.”

Gavin Newsom Will Officially Consider Running For President After 2026 Midterm Elections
Newsom discussed possibly running for president. He highlighted challenges he’s faced throughout his life, like being dyslexic. However, he said it’s a reminder to him and others that despite it all, life goes on and in surprising directions. He said:
“I have no idea [if I’ll run for president]. The idea that a guy who got 960 on his SAT, that still struggles to read scripts, that was always in the back of the classroom, the idea that you would even throw that out is, in and of itself, extraordinary. Who the hell knows? I’m looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment. And that’s the question for the American people.”
Furthermore, Newsom did confirmed that he will consider whether to run for the White House or not once the 2026 midterms have concluded. During the sit-down, Newsom was specifically asked if he would give the idea to run “serious thought” after next year’s midterms. He replied, “Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise. I’d just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that.”
Newsom’s current position as California Governor ends in January 2027. Therefore, he cannot run again due to term limits. However, Newsom noted that his bid for president would be years down the line. Previously, Newsom said that if he ever decided to run, he would need a strong reason, or a why, to do it. When asked whether he has found his why to run, he explained, “Fate will determine that.”
For the time being, Newsom’s focus is on passing Proposition 50, a California ballot measure, for which he’s being championing, that would allow state Democrats to temporarily change the boundaries of U.S. House districts and make them more favorable to the party.
California Governor Gavin Newsom Has Been Visiting Battleground States Ahead of 2026 Midterm Elections
Ahead of his new consideration for president, Newsom has notably made trips to key battleground states. This includes a visit this past July to South Carolina. At the moment, the state is currently scheduled to host the first Democratic primary in the 2028 presidential election. However, that could change in time.
Furthermore, during his SC trip, Newsom made several stops. During one, he met with state Democratic leaders and also visited a local coffee shop to rally with constituents and activists. While there, he also lent a hand and helped employees serve espresso drinks.
During his latest interview, Newsom recalled the trip and said, “I happen to, and thank God, I’m in the right business.” When asked about enjoying his time down in South Carolina, meeting and hanging with the Democratic people, he said, “I love people. I actually love people.”
