Governor. Gavin Newsom recently expressed his anger at the lack of social distancing in the state.

“We’re not minimizing mixing. It throws shivers up my spine,” said Newsom. “Here we are making all this progress, and it can be done away.”

As of Wednesday, state officials reported a total of 10,808 deaths in California. On Friday it was over 11,000. Nearly 60% of confirmed patients in California are Latino, followed by White patients at 17%.

In Los Angeles County, the transmission rate of the virus is about 0.86, meaning that every one infected person passes the virus to an average of 0.86 other people. Last week, the rate was at 0.91, so there is some improvement.

California currently leads in COVID-19 cases, followed by Florida, with 557,137 cases, and Texas, with 531,428 cases.
