The unidentified woman said she said sent her 30-year-old daughter on an errand to Tops Friendly Market to pick up groceries early Saturday afternoon but the young woman didn’t return home. While scrolling through Facebook, the mother discovered the disturbing footage of Peyton Gendron opening fire on her daughter as she walked out of the store. However, it is unclear if the mother saw the actual live-stream footage or a video clip of the shooting as reported by the New York Post.

Ten victims were killed during the shooting and three survivors were transported to a nearby hospital where they were listed in stable condition. Other reports said Gendron is currently on suicide watch.

As previously reported, Gendron,18, wrote a 108-page manifesto and drove several miles from his home in Conklin, New York to carry out the shooting. In the manifesto, he agreed with the multiple racially-motivated killings and took note of the deadly mosque shooting in New Zealand in March 2019. He also planned the shooting in January.

Gendron chose Buffalo because it had the highest population of Black people and it was only a three-hour drive from his home. His manifesto also broke down his daily schedule of how he would carry out the shooting. On his rifle, he also wrote the n-word along with a cryptic number.

Two of the victim of the shooting was identified as Ruth Whitfield, 86, and Aaron Salter, a retired Buffalo police officer who worked as a security guard. Salter fired several shots at Gendron during the shooting but was killed shortly after. Whitfield is the mother of retired Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield.

The city’s Mayor Byron Brown also released a statement about the shooting and condemned his actions of hatred.

“We are certainly saddened that someone drove from hundreds of miles away, someone not from this community, that did not know this community, that came here to take as many Black lives as possible, who did this in a willful, premeditated fashion, planning this. But we are a strong community and we will keep moving forward.”

Streaming platform Twitch said in a statement that they took down footage of the shooting in less than two minutes,

“We are devastated to hear about the shooting that took place this afternoon in Buffalo, New York. Our hearts go out to the community impacted by this tragedy. “Twitch has a zero-tolerance policy against the violence of any kind and works swiftly to respond to all incidents. The user has been indefinitely suspended from our service, and we are taking all appropriate action, including monitoring for any accounts rebroadcasting this content.”

Gendron was charged with first-degree murder and he is expected to appear in court later this week.
