Britt Reid Charged With Felony DWI In Crash That Left 5-Year-Old With Brain Injury

Former Kansas City Chiefs Assistant Coach Britt Reid, 35, has been formally charged with felony DWI in the crash that left 5-year-old Ariel Young in a coma with a brain injury.

As we previously reported, Reid, the son of the KC Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid, was accused of crashing his pickup truck into two cars that were pulled over on the side of the I-435 highway at around 9 p.m. on February 4; just 3 days before the Chiefs appeared at Super Bowl LV. The crash left Young in a coma with a serious brain injury. Fortunately, she awoke from her coma a week after the crash, and is currently showing signs of improvement, but faces a long road to recovery.

Per investigators, Reid had taken Adderall and drank before getting behind the wheel that night, and his field sobriety tests proved he was under the influence. It’s since been reported that Reid’s blood alcohol content was at .113 after the crash, well above the .08 legal limit. Also, investigators say he was going 82.6 MPH in a 65 MPH zone seconds before the crash, reaching 83.9 MPH at the time of impact. As of Monday (Apr. 12), Reid was hit with a felony DWI, a charge that Ariel’s attorney, Tom Porto, says is “absolutely appropriate given the circumstances.” He adds, “Ariel will endure this every day for the rest of her life.”
