Britney Spears’ Ex Kevin Federline Wants Her to Be ‘Healthy and Happy’

Britney Spears’ ex and the father of her kids is speaking out after the pop star appeared at the hearing for her conservatorship.

Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan spoke to PEOPLE about the shocking revelation on behalf of his client,

“The best thing would be for their mom to be healthy and happy. And if either of those things aren’t true, it doesn’t provide for the best setting for custody to be exercised,” said Kaplan. Kevin shares sons Sean Preston, 15, and Jayden James, 14 with Britney. “[Kevin] certainly respects Britney and only hopes the best for her because when the best for her is achieved, it’s the best for their kids. The kids love their mother and he wants there to be a healthy and strong relationship.”

Kaplan adds that “Britney has not been served well by the conservatorship and it’s not consistent with what she wants,” he adds. “I think that she should be able to challenge that. And if it’s what’s best for her, Kevin supports it.”

As we reported, last week Britney spoke out for the first time about her conservatorship, adding that it was extremely restrictive and abusive. She said that she did not want further medical evaluation, and just wants out now. Britney also argues that her family has done nothing to protect her, but instead hurt her and thrived off of it. She says she has zero privacy, with conservatorship caretakers watching her disrobe, and even says when she’s home, there are times she can’t even see her boyfriend or kids. She also looks to sue her conservator who’s keeping her from living her life, withholding money, and denying vacations and simple freedoms.
