A Saturday statement from The Carter Center revealed that Jimmy Carter, former US President will begin receiving hospice care.
“After a series of short hospital stays, former US President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team,” the statement said.
Carter, a Democrat, was president of the US from 1977 to 1981. The late Ronald Reagan, a Republican, succeeded Carter after defeating him at the end of his term. Carter, who turned 98 last year, became the oldest living US president in history following the passing of George H.W. Bush, who died in 2018 at the age of 94.

Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter, have lived their post-presidency years in his hometown, Plains. He has had a number of health-related issues in recent years. Back in 2015, Carter underwent surgery for liver cancer. However, his treatments came to an a year later after it was reported that an experimental drug had eliminated the cancer.
