Garrett Foster attended a peaceful demonstration with his fiancee Whitney Mitchell in Austin when a motorist approached the crowd shortly before 10 pm. Witnesses reported that the driver honked his horn and did a slight turn on a road before speeding towards protestors. One of the witnesses, Michael Capochiano, said Foster was carrying a rifle and approached the vehicle. Moments after, he was shot by the driver and the driver fled the scene. Footage of the shooting was captured during a Facebook Live stream.
