Howard U alumni Eddie C. Brown and his wife C. Sylvia Brown donated the generous amount of money to their alma mater earlier this week, the school said in an announcement. According to Black Enterprise, the couple met at Howard U in the 1960s and Eddie is the founder and CEO of Brown Capital Management, a management asset management firm in Baltimore, Maryland. His firm is the second oldest Black-owned investment firm in the United States.

The donation will support the Graduation Retention Access to Continued Excellence(GRACE) grant, a program that helps students who are facing financial hardships.

“That those who are blessed should be a blessing to someone, especially those less fortunate. We always remember that. I was blessed to receive my college education debt-free, and I think it’s important to offer those less fortunate the opportunity to do so as well,” Brown said in a statement to the outlet.

Howard University President Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick exclaimed the grant is to help motivate students to accomplish their educational goals so they can graduate on time.
